Chimera

by Harness the Abyss

1.
He runs as fast as the water falls He races through the streets obliviously His face reflects light on the shadowy roads All he can see is joy As the rain falls faster
2.
Absentia 04:21
He traverses the labyrinth of his mind His mental states ebb and flow He’s more in-tune to the internal stream Absent from the realm we know
3.
Statuette 05:49
He stands in the corridors of his ancestors He absorbs the beauty and darkness on display He feels for the first time a desire for something more A desire to belong He begins to create and replicate His carvings imitate the statuette he admires The chimera his ancestors praise
4.
Tunnels 04:01
He wanders in isolation beneath the surface His arms reach into the darkness for a structure to enter Or evidence of the ancestral rituals He finds nothing but emptiness and uncertainty In the tunnels of no destination or meaning
5.
March 04:15
He trudges up the snowy slope His tears dry up in weary solitude He searches still for something more His soul still cold and alone Despite the heights he’s achieved
6.
The Critic 04:53
He now controls the corridors His fears of inadequacy concealed He covers his feelings with the callous of a critic The chimera now a mere commodity
7.
Stagnant 04:12
He lies motionless on the cot His apathetic life leaves him stagnant He takes in the wreak of his failures Too desensitized to regret
8.
He walks alone through familiar passages His home he took for granted He knows the end is near He feels the tears begin to flow How could he have known what would count in the end? He let’s the years of harbored emotions go Cathartic release of sorrow
9.
Conjoined 05:08
He stands at the top of the staircase He understands that each flight leads to the base On one hand, a boy laughing in the rain On the other, a man locking the corridors He now knows he can conjoin their paths He looks to us and says: We are the chimeras our ancestors praised
